Character Species: Tiefling, ⅛ pit fiend (He’s a hemi-demi-semi fiend!)
Current Health: Pretty ok.
Outfit: Full plate armor, etched with flowers and suns, over a plain soldier-ish uniform. The full plate is lightly enchanted, but only with basic protection (it’s +1). His belt makes him stronger.

Character Canon:
Link to History: Marus is a paladin of the Sarenite faith from Korvosa, in Varisia, in the Inner Sea region of Golarion. He was born a scion of the House Ornelos, but redacted from their records at birth due to his tiefling nature, inherited from the disgraced former duke of hell, Lorthact the Unraveler, who had infiltrated the family. Instead, he was raised by the Thornspawns, a lawful evil pair of tiefling guards at the Acadamae of Magic. Somehow, they went right, and around his rebellious 30s, he ran away to join the church of the redeemer.

He was a party member in a house on hook street campaign. Summary of the timeline for that game can be found here. It is an occult horror module, so CW: heavy horror themes.

Through the course of the campaign he was played in, he found love, fell from grace, rose again, slew a night hag, saved the world, and adopted a daughter. He is a loving husband to two men, one an older dhampir, one a rakshasa-brood tiefling. He is a good father. He is also in exile from Korvosa, the town he has called home his whole life, for trying to pressure his birth family. The rest of the party and his daughter are coming with him on a long adventure. I may update him later to reflect on my writings about what happens next. A summary of our campaign can be found here; it is over 3700 words long, and could not be included in the app.

★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills: Swordsmanship. Shield usage. Paladinhood - honesty, forthrightness, maintaining vows. Religion. History. Being tough. Failing Stealth checks.
Canon Abilities: Marus is a Warrior of the Holy Light, and while he can heal, he cannot cast spells of any sort. He is able to project his faith in an empowering nimbus of light. He is immune to disease and fear. He is also a tiefling, so he can see in the dark and is resistant to heat, cold, and electricity. He speaks infernal and common natively, and is a strong person, due to both nature and magical enhancement. He is tough and difficult to poison or manipulate with magic (has high saves) due to his paladin-hood. He can smite evil, as well as sense it both abstractly and directly (if he focuses). He makes people braver (medium save bonus) just by being near (within 10 feet of) him - it’s magic. He can heal disease and nausea with a touch. He is immune to charming magic, and extends partial immunity (medium save bonus) to those near him - also magic. He is able to channel his divine energy into an area of healing or holy damage (that really only affects undead). He is the most interesting man in the world.
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: Though his normal appearance is demonic, he’s going to gain a floating, star-like nimbus of light that hovers just above and between the tips of his horns. He might get wings later.
Role Reasoning: Marus is a beacon of hope and faith, extending his light - both literally and figuratively - to those around him. As a Legend, he will be the first to rush in, and the last to leave a dangerous situation, making sure others get out first. He will be the last bastion of light in a dangerous world. He has fallen - may fall again - but he will always get up and learn and grow from it. He’s a powerful symbol of GOOD and I intend to play him as a compassionate, loving person with a core of solid steel. He is steady, and unlikely to stray from this path overmuch.

★ Personality ★

Option 1.

The paladins of the Dawnflower are fierce warriors, like their goddess. They provide hope to the weak and support to the righteous. Their tenets include the following adages.
-I will protect my allies with my life. They are my light and my strength, as I am their light and their strength. We rise together.
-I will seek out and destroy the spawn of the Rough Beast. If I cannot defeat them, I will give my life trying. If my life would be wasted in the attempt, I will find allies. If any fall because of my inaction, their deaths lie upon my soul, and I will atone for each.
-I am fair to others. I expect nothing for myself but that which I need to survive.
-The best battle is a battle I win. If I die, I can no longer fight. I will fight fairly when the fight is fair, and I will strike quickly and without mercy when it is not.
-I will redeem the ignorant with my words and my actions. If they will not turn toward the light, I will redeem them by the sword.
-I will not abide evil, and will combat it with steel when words are not enough. I do not flinch from my faith, and do not fear embarrassment. My soul cannot be bought for all the stars in the sky.
-I will show the less fortunate the light of the Dawnflower. I will live my life as her mortal blade, shining with the light of truth.
-Each day is another step toward perfection. I will not turn back into the dark.

This is the code that Marus strives every day to represent. He is a strong-willed individual, even if his failures weigh heavily on him. He suffers from bipolar depression, but finds steadiness in his work. He is a role model to those around him.

Marus is a paladin, first and foremost. He is a beacon of light and goodness in an increasingly desolate world, and fights every day to prove that such ideals have meaning - both within and without. His fiendish heritage is a source of anxiety, even as it is a source of strength. The strength is both natural and born of defying that nature - of walking in the light for forty years without more than the occasional stumble. He has only fallen from grace one time, detailed below. He works hard, re-earning that path after every stumble, evey fall. Marus is shaped by neither nature nor nurture, but by choice and will, and that’s a core tenet of his truest self, his truest potential - we are what we make of ourselves. We are our choices.

Marus doesn’t have a sneaky bone in his body. Everything he does is direct and to the point, whether striking down an agent of darkness or helping someone. He also doesn’t have a subtle bone in his body. He is aware of both points, however, and makes sure to compensate. He’ll walk on the other side of the road from a party trying to sneak, or leave negotiations to others.

That’s not to say he isn’t charismatic - he can be. He has a strong laugh, a good heart, and a calm confidence that is only sometimes marred by uncertainty. He is a powerhouse of goodness, and it rubs off on those around him, making them want to do better. He’s just also an awkward bean.

Marus fell once. He failed to protect an ally when he could, failed to even try, after the death of his dhampir lover; she died, and he fell. He took the opportunity to confront his birth family, attempting to pressure them to pay for her revival. He failed, and was exiled, pending after the mission to save Korvosa, and maybe the world, from the realm of nightmare’s incursions. His only evil act was in defense of his vows, and against diabolists, devil-worshippers, but it still weighs on him. He accepts his exile as just. He is not infallible, but he walks forward.

Marus is willing and able to take hits for others. He is strong and protective and damn hard to kill. He is, without a doubt, a good man. That is his full potential - more than hope, more than faith - a firm, unyielding goodness, stalwart in the face of all that would oppose it. To gain that would mean, to him, that he’s doing what he wishes for. That his vows are being maintained, and that he is walking ever forward.
